Once the planning is complete and you have all the necessary materials, the next step is some basic disassembly. Simply remove the cabinet doors and the drawers from their location. Tip, number the drawers when taking them out, this will ensure they are put back in their corresponding spot.
After the cabinet doors and drawers have been removed your next step is preparing the wood. It is very important to clean the area. Sanding is very important in this step. Sanding will take off any rough edges and the older paint if any was used prior. Once the sanding is complete, the only thing left is to apply the stain.
For some people any form of carpentry work is seen as a chore for someone else to do. I actually enjoy some carpentry work, for me though at least at this phase in life I have a 3 year old and a 2 year old who think they are suited for the task. I have found some tasks such as kitchen cabinet refinishing may be too complicated, not because of the actual refinishing work, but keeping little hands away from important and dangerous items.
If you are a bit of a handyman, cabinet refinishing will likely be an easy task. If you are not certain, just remember anything is possible if you have and follow the proper instruction.
