Whatever decision you make, cost should not be the most important item here. If you look at this project as an investment into your homes future, this will reduce the temptation of being cheap. Cheap and durability rarely come hand and hand. You either save money up front and spend the rest of your time making repairs or you invest in durability and style and have an investment that rarely needs any additional work.
